Are you ready to start a career in chaplaincy? The Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy at Columbia International University equips you with the knowledge, tools, and skills necessary to provide spiritual support in a wide range of settings. The program, available in both fully online and residential format, offers a comprehensive biblical education that prepares you for effective ministry leadership in various contexts, including local churches, para-church organizations, and mission agencies.

Through this program, you will gain a deep understanding of the Old and New Testaments with an emphasis on God’s redemptive mission. You will practice sound exegesis and apply biblical principles to contemporary issues. Additionally, you will engage with global challenges to orthodox beliefs using insights from the history of global Christianity. You will also develop the ability to understand cultures and worldviews from a biblical perspective, enabling you to engage in effective, biblically-contextualized ministry. The program emphasizes applying biblical principles to leadership, pastoring, preaching, teaching, and counseling, and includes hands-on experience through an internship supervised by a mentor and faculty advisor.

CHP 6100 - Introduction to Chaplaincy

In this course, you will explore the various types of chaplaincy ministry, including their commonalities, distinctives, and expectations. You will develop a comprehensive theology of chaplaincy and create a plan to employ it in your own ministry setting.

CNS 6408 - Care and Counseling Techniques

This course will introduce you to the foundational techniques and skills of [pastoral] care and counseling. You will learn how to counsel strategically within the client's process of spiritual, emotional, and relational growth utilizing a holistic therapeutic approach. Emphasis will be placed upon development of the counseling and care professional as well as the development of techniques and skills.
