Dr. Ron Tryon is a professor in the Cook School of Business who brings a wealth of hands-on professional experience to its students. Having grown up in Elmira, New York, Dr. Tryon attended Cornell University, where he majored in agricultural economics while serving as Captain of the men’s varsity basketball team. Upon graduation, he obtained a dual Master of Business Administration/Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina. After passing the SC Bar exam and being sworn in, he enjoyed a highly successful professional career representing domestic and international corporations in commercial, intellectual property, and business tort litigation in both state and federal court.
While practicing law, Dr. Tryon served the greater Columbia community in various leadership roles for several nonprofits including the Columbia YMCA, the Urban League of Columbia, Rotary International, and South Carolina United FC. In following God’s plan for him, Dr. Tryon walked away from the practice of law in 2013 and became CEO of South Carolina FC where he managed the design, construction, and fundraising of its 20-acre soccer complex know today as the Southeastern Freight Lines Soccer Complex located near CIU. From 2019 through 2022, Dr. Tryon served as CEO of United Futsal, the world’s leading international youth futsal tournament operator which holds annually the World Futsal Cup in Barcelona and the World Futsal Championships in Orlando, among other high-quality youth futsal events.
An entrepreneur at heart, most recently, Dr. Tryon co-founded Clutch Computer LLC with his 14-year-old stepson, which has to date built, sold, and shipped gaming computers to every U.S. state except one, two U.S. Territories, and 23 countries. Having a passion for uniting people from around the world, Dr. Tryon also founded CulturePlus International, Inc. a non-profit which organizes international youth exchanges. He also serves as a consultant to non-profit leadership through his company, Dr. Tryon Services LLC.
Incorporating his vast experiences, Dr. Tryon provides enthusiastic instruction to our CIU Business Administration and Sports Management students. He teaches International Law, Legal Aspects of Sport, Sport Marketing, Sport Facilities Finance and Development, Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Financial Reporting as well as Capstone for our rising seniors.
Dr. Tryon and his wife Stephanie, a critical care nurse at Lexington Medical Center, are members of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church where Dr. Tryon serves on Council and on its Strategic Planning Committee.
